The honest version

Who should pick TrustHours, and who should stay on ActivTrak

ActivTrak is a productivity analytics tool first and a time tracker second. TrustHours is the reverse. That difference decides most of the choice.

Pick TrustHours if

A team that pays by the hour and wants a simple contract

  • You want screenshots included, not a paid add-on with an unpublished price.
  • You want payroll in 40 currencies and chat in the same product.
  • You want monthly billing: ActivTrak currently sells annual plans only.
  • You want an AI connector that acts with approval, live now.
  • You want to start with a 14-day trial and a Free plan.
Pick ActivTrak if

Analytics for how work gets done

  • You want workforce analytics: app and website usage, focus time and work-pattern insights, rather than hourly proof of work.
  • You want productivity goals and an optional AI Insights layer ($4 add-on).
  • You need SOC 2 Type 2 documented, with a paid support plan above 50 licences.
  • You need ChromeOS coverage or macOS 15.1+, and a Free plan for 3 workers with no screenshots.
  • You want Do Not Track lists per user or device and domain-only URL reports by default.
Stay on ActivTrak if

ActivTrak is already how you manage work

  • Your managers rely on its productivity dashboards and goals.
  • You use site blocking or alarms on Screen Details.
  • Your MCP beta in Claude or ChatGPT is in use on Workforce Management.
  • Your security team has cleared its SOC 2 Type 2 report.

Pricing

ActivTrak pricing vs TrustHours pricing

ActivTrak's headline price excludes screenshots, which sit in an add-on. TrustHours includes them. Contract length matters too, since ActivTrak sells annual plans only.

Switching

How to switch from ActivTrak to TrustHours

Plan an afternoon, and start at the beginning of a pay period. Check your annual contract end date first.

  1. Export from ActivTrak first. Export the reports you need and download any screenshots you captured with Screen Details. ActivTrak does not publish an import path for other trackers.
  2. Start a TrustHours trial. 14 days, no card. Create your workspace and invite the team. TrustHours cannot import time entries from other trackers today, so past hours stay in your export.
  3. Tell your team before you install. Send the message below and link what TrustHours sees. People accept tracking they were told about.
  4. Install the Windows app and set the rules. Choose the screenshot interval, blur and skipped apps, then add pay rates. macOS is coming; founding teams get early access.
  5. Run one pay period in TrustHours. Compare hours with your ActivTrak export for a week if you want a safety net.
  6. Cancel ActivTrak. Annual plans are contracts, so check your renewal date and cancel before it. Ask ActivTrak about refunds in writing.

ActivTrak sells annual plans only, so the cost of leaving mid-term may be an unused remainder. Confirm your terms.

Subject: We are moving to TrustHours for time tracking

Hi team,

From [date] we are moving from ActivTrak to TrustHours. Here is what that means for you.

- You will be asked for permission before tracking starts.
- It captures your tracked time, a screenshot at a random moment in each interval, which apps were active, and keyboard and mouse activity counts. It never records what you type.
- Nothing is captured while you are paused, on a break, or the app is closed. You can pause from the tray icon at any time.
- You can see your own hours, screenshots and activity in your app.

How we compared

Method, disclosure and corrections

Who wrote this. TrustHours made this page, so we have an interest in you choosing us. We tried to make it useful even if you stay on ActivTrak, which is why it says where ActivTrak is the better fit.

How we checked. Every ActivTrak statement comes from a ActivTrak page, its help centre, or its listings on review sites, opened on 27 October 2026 (see Sources). When a figure comes from a pricing guide or a listing because the vendor page loads prices with JavaScript, we say so. Vendor claims are shown as claims. ActivTrak's Screen Details price is not published, so we left it out of the cost comparison rather than estimate it.

What we did not do. We did not run a hands-on accuracy test, and we do not repeat unverified opinions from forums. Where we could not confirm something, we left it out or marked it as not stated.

Corrections. Prices and features change. If you find something out of date, tell us and we will fix it and update the date. Last full check: 27 October 2026.

Questions

TrustHours vs ActivTrak: questions people ask

What is the best ActivTrak alternative?

For screenshots, payroll and chat in a simple monthly plan, TrustHours. For free basic tracking, Clockify or Jibble. For deeper security monitoring, Teramind. For analytics with stealth options, Insightful. Each has a comparison page here.

How much does ActivTrak cost?

Work Activity Tracking is $10 per worker per month billed yearly, Workforce Management $15, Productivity Optimization $17 and Workflow $21. Add-ons include AI Insights at $4 and Data History at $1. There is a free plan for 3 workers, and only annual plans are sold.

Is TrustHours cheaper than ActivTrak?

Yes on entry price: TrustHours Team is $6.67 yearly or $8 monthly against $10 yearly for ActivTrak Work Activity Tracking, and includes screenshots, which ActivTrak sells as an add-on. TrustHours also has no annual contract or user minimum.

Does ActivTrak take screenshots?

Only with the paid Screen Details add-on, and alarm-triggered rather than continuous. ActivTrak states that screenshots, screen views and some alarm actions are not included in the base platform. TrustHours includes screenshots on every plan, including Free.

Is ActivTrak a keylogger?

No. ActivTrak states that keystroke logging, camera access, video recording and email reading are not supported. It records activity of the active window based on mouse and keyboard input, not what is typed.

Does ActivTrak have a free plan?

Yes. The free plan covers up to 3 workers with limited functionality, and reviewers cite no saved screenshots and a 3 GB data cap. TrustHours Free also covers 3 users and includes screenshots every 10 minutes, kept 2 weeks.

Can ActivTrak detect mouse jigglers?

ActivTrak provides three alarms for jiggler software, repetitive activity and 45-minute activity duration, off by default. The repetitive alarm works only on Windows, and ActivTrak says some sophisticated hardware may slip past detection.

Can ActivTrak run silently?

Yes. Silent installation methods deploy the agent without prompts, and ActivTrak leaves it to your policies whether to tell employees. TrustHours has no silent mode and asks employees for permission before tracking starts.

Does ActivTrak have an AI or MCP connector?

Yes, in beta. ActivTrak offers Claude and ChatGPT connectors on Workforce Management, Productivity Optimization and bundles. Whether they can change data was not stated. TrustHours has a live connector that reads and acts with your approval.

Does ActivTrak run payroll?

No. ActivTrak lists no payroll, invoicing, chat or projects. TrustHours includes payroll in 40 currencies, projects and chat on Team.

Is there a minimum number of users for ActivTrak?

Capterra lists a 5-user minimum, and ActivTrak requires a paid support plan above 50 licences. TrustHours has no minimum and bills only active users.

Can I import ActivTrak data into TrustHours?

Not today. Export your reports and any screenshots, then start fresh in TrustHours at the start of a pay period.

Is TrustHours as secure as ActivTrak?

ActivTrak states SOC 2 Type 2. TrustHours has a selectable data region and publishes what it captures, but does not claim SOC 2 yet. If you need that report, ActivTrak is the safer pick today.

Is it legal to monitor employees with ActivTrak or TrustHours?

The software is lawful in most places, but notice rules vary. New York, Connecticut and Delaware require written notice, and UK guidance expects openness. ActivTrak leaves notice to your organisation. This is general information, not legal advice.
